Sir Richard Branson and Jose Mariano Lopez-Urdiales discuss innovative and greener solutions for aerospace challenges
As part of the SLOW LIFE Symposium 2011, zero2infinity's founder and CEO Jose Mariano Lopez-Urdiales discussed with Sir Richard Branson ways to green air and space transportation. Both agreed that exploration can play a key role in opening technological frontiers. The Virgin Group has pledge to use its dividends from airline activity to fund research into greener ways to fly. zero2infinity's bloon, under development, will fly to near-space (above 99.5% of the atmosphere) with zero emissions. It is a concrete example of how innovative entrepreneurial companies can provide new solutions for complex challenges like aerospace.
Small islands states, such as hour host, the Republic of the Maldives, are on the frontline of awareness of global change. Facing rising sea levels and increased storm activity, they could literally disappear. Warmer waters also mean that corals that serve as the foundation of many beautiful islands can die bringing down the islands with them. The urgency for them to find a solution to our global fossil fuel addition is clear. Responsible tourism can be a formidable force for change and contribute to preserve the very nature that makes travel to many destinations attractive. We would like to thank Six Senses Resort and Spas and specially its founding couple Eva and Sonu Shivdasani for this great opportunity to meet and work with like-minded environmentalists from around the world. Eva and Sonu have been the clear leaders in environmental responsibility in high-end travel, many years before it became fashionable to be green.
